Orifice Flanges

Orifice flanges are one of the most economical means of measuring flow, and E S Haji & Co flanges are manufactured to be the most accurate. E S Haji & Co leads the flange manufacturing industry in Chennai and manufactures according to industry specific standards in addition to custom requirements of their clients.
In this Blog E S Haji & Co renders the reason as to why Slip-On Flange is the most common type in the flange industry and enhances the purposes it serves in the industrial sector.

Description
ORIFICE FLANGES are widely used in conjunction with orifice meters for measuring the rate of flow of liquids and gases. They are basically the same as standard welding neck, slip-on and screwed flanges except for the provision of radial, tapped holes in the flange ring for meter connections and additional bolts to act as jack screws to facilitate separating the flanges for inspection or replacement of the orifice plate.

It’s called an orifice plate and it goes between two flanges in a piping system. It is part of a flow metering system. Since the orifice is smaller in diameter than the pipe, there is a pressure drop just downstream of the orifice. A metering device measures the pressure on both sides of the orifice and converts the pressure differential into a flow rate.

The size of the orifice opening is not that critical. It depends on how much pressure you want to lose, which is never recovered from. The smaller the orifice the more pressure you lose. Most commonly the size of the orifice ranges between 30% to 70% of the inside diameter of the pipe. There are other factors like temperature, specific gravity, viscosity, etc., too much to get into here.

Orifice flanges generally come with either raised faces or RTJ (Ring Type Joint) facings. E S Haji & Co not only stock certain sizes of this flange, but has been a reputable source for them for many years.

Where are they used ?
Orifice Flanges are used with orifice meters for the purpose of measuring the flow rate of either liquids or gases in the respective pipeline.

They are, for all intensive purposes, the same as weld neck and slip-on flanges with extra machining.

Orifice flanges are intended for use instead of standard pipe flanges when an orifice plate or flow nozzle must be installed. Pairs of pressure tapping are machined into the orifice flange, making separate orifice carriers or tapping in the pipe wall.

Key Features
